Cork County’s first BikeSafe Workshop
We are pleased to share that the Cork County Roads Policing Unit successfully conducted its first Bikesafe workshop in Mitchelstown on the 1st September 2024. This workshop provided an opportunity for our Roads Policing motorcyclists to share their expertise and experiences with fellow motorcyclists.
At the beginning of the course, participants were asked about their objectives, and the primary focus was clear: road safety. They expressed a strong desire to enhance their skills for safer motorcycling. Throughout the workshop, participants learned about hazard awareness, correct road positioning, cornering techniques, and safe overtaking.
The workshop covered a diverse range of road environments, including motorway driving, urban routes through towns and villages, and both primary and secondary roads, ensuring participants experienced various driving conditions. Each rider received constructive feedback on their driving skills in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. They highly recommended the course, noting it as the best training they had received for improving their road craftsmanship.
Sergeant Dave White led this workshop for Cork County. These workshops would not be possible without the proper facilities and equipment, and the addition of two motorcycles this year, which enabled us to host these valuable courses. Mitchelstown Garda Station was an ideal venue, providing a space for the classroom presentation to the eight participants
