Superintendent Stephen McCauley Thanks Riders Following Successful BikeSafe Workshops
The latest BikeSafe workshop took place in Dublin Castle on the 3rd of May, bringing together motorcyclists from across the country for a day focused on improving rider safety, awareness, and advanced roadcraft skills.
Speaking at the event, Superintendent Stephen McCauley thanked everyone who participated in the BikeSafe programme throughout the season and highlighted the strong response from the motorcycling community.
“This has been a tremendous success for such a condensed period to run BikeSafe,” Superintendent McCauley said. “I met with many of the riders this morning as they arrived and they were all very enthusiastic about BikeSafe and ultimately keeping themselves safer on the roads.”
A Strong Response from the Motorcycling Community
The Dublin Castle workshop marked the final scheduled BikeSafe event in Dublin for the year, with one further workshop due to take place in Limerick. Due to operational policing commitments, no additional workshops are currently planned, although further events may be announced later in the year depending on resources and availability.
Riders are encouraged to continue checking the BikeSafe website and Garda social media channels for updates regarding future workshops and events.
Encouraging Riders to Continue Advanced Training
A key message throughout the workshop was the importance of continued rider development and advanced training beyond BikeSafe itself.
“We would encourage everyone, whether you attend a BikeSafe workshop or not, to think about taking further training from an accredited trainer,” Superintendent McCauley explained. “Anything that helps bring riders to the next level of safety is extremely important.”
BikeSafe workshops provide riders with practical guidance on road positioning, observation, hazard awareness, cornering techniques, and defensive riding strategies, delivered by advanced Garda motorcyclists.
Staying Safe During the Summer Riding Season
With improving weather conditions and increasing numbers of motorcyclists expected on Irish roads over the summer months, Superintendent McCauley also reminded riders to prioritise both rider behaviour and motorcycle maintenance.
“Please look after yourselves out there,” he said. “Make sure your bikes are roadworthy, check your tyres, check your pressures, and check all the things that are keeping you safe on the roads.”
He also urged riders to wear high-visibility clothing, remain within posted speed limits, and always ride according to the road and weather conditions.
“Please never ride above the posted speed limit and only ride to the speed that is appropriate for the road conditions.”
Meeting Riders Throughout the Summer
The Garda Roads Policing Unit will continue engaging with the motorcycling community throughout the summer at various motorcycle and road racing events around the country.
“We will be appearing at some events over the summer and hopefully at some of the road racing events,” Superintendent McCauley said. “If you see us or see the BikeSafe tent anywhere, please come along and have a chat.”
The BikeSafe team also expressed hope that additional workshops may become available later in the year if operational demands allow.
To everyone who participated in this year’s programme, Superintendent McCauley offered one final message:
“Thank you to everyone who has taken part in BikeSafe, and I wish you a very successful and safe biking season ahead.”
